On May 17, Covent Garden will host a three-week-long rose festival to celebrate the return of indoor dining. More than 20 restaurants will be present in the piazza and surrounding streets, serving 30 different varieties of pink wine, as well as rosé cocktails and frosé. There will be nine dedicated pop-ups, including Mirabeau, Amie wine, and a partnership seafood restaurant the Oystermen and Champagne house Pol Roger, in addition to the restaurants. Following the removal of lockdown restrictions across England, the Museum of London and the Museum of London Docklands will reopen to the public on May 19, 2021, following a five-month closure, as per government guidelines. The Museum of London Docklands has announced the extension of many exhibits and shows, including the ‘Havering Hoard: A Bronze Age Mystery’ exhibition on London’s largest Bronze Age hoard, which will run until August 22, 2021. As part of the exhibition exploring the mystery and context surrounding the burial of the cache, a fascinating array of 453 bronze tools and weapons, dated from c. 900-800 BC, will be on display, including axe heads, sword fragments, and daggers.

The Queen’s Beasts coin weighs 10 kg and took 400 hours to make. The Royal Mint has produced the largest gold coin in its 1,100-year history. The Mint described the coin as a “masterwork” that took 400 hours to create, including four days of polishing. The coin has already found a buyer. The Mint did not provide any information about the sale or the buyer, but stated that a coin of this quality and craftsmanship would be priced in the six-figure amount. Big Ben renovation to be completed in 2022

The restoration of Elizabeth Tower, Big Ben is postponed until 2022. The renovation (which is now approaching £80 million) of London’s main attraction was expected to be completed this year. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, recovery work has been delayed. The British Parliament said in a statement “the Elizabeth Tower conservation project is due to be completed in the second quarter of 2022. Parliament has announced a number of important milestones expected in the implementation of the project over the next twelve months.
